В Лондоне прошла церемония Golden Joystick Awards 2019, на которой были названы лучшие игры последнего года по версии пользователей. Победители определялись по итогам масштабного голосования, в котором могли принять участие геймеры со всего мира.
Лучшей игрой года пользователи в итоге признали Resident Evil 2, а критики сделали выбор в пользу Control от Remedy. При этом пользовательская награда считается самой главной.
Создатель сериала Shenmue Ю Судзуки получил приз за жизненные достижения. Аудитории показали трейлер документального фильма о японском разработчике.

Церемония Golden Joystick Awards всегда проходит примерно за полтора месяца до конца календарного года, поэтому в номинации допускаются игры, появившиеся в период с прошлой осени по текущую, но не все успевают попасть. Например, в списках этого года ни в одной из категорий нет таких релизов, как Death Stranding, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order и Luigi's Mansion 3.
При формировании номинаций организаторы остановились на стартовавших 25 октября The Outer Worlds и Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Проектов, которые выходят позже, следует ожидать уже в списках следующей церемонии, которая пройдет осенью 2020 года.
